5th Grade Students' Schedule - What their day looks like...
5th grade students primarily travel as a class, maintaining a sense of family, as they transition from class to class, enjoying a multitude of engaging learning activities. Teachers work as a TEAM of teachers to build relationships with every child and dedicate themselves to weekly PLC time (Professional Learning Communities) where they collaborate with one another to develop the best strategies, interventions, and enrichment to help EVERY child experience measurable academic growth and excellence, building their confidence and reigniting their love of school. 5th graders will begin and end their day with a homeroom teacher. Their core classes will be located in the same "pod," and most often their next class will be located "right next door." ELA (English/Language Arts) and Math will both be approximately 75-80 minutes long each day, while Social Studies and Science will be be 75-80 minutes long every other day.
5th grade students will enjoy PE one class period a day. (PE = Physical Education. In addition, 5th grade students will be able to enjoy TWO OTHER EXPLORATORY classes a day. We call these LIFE APP CLASSES:
ART - a 9 weeks class.
GENERAL MUSIC - a 9 weeks class

TECHNOLOGY - a 9 weeks class

ENRICHMENT - project-based enrichment classes in SCIENCE, SS, ELA, &/OR MATH - These enrichment classes will be an additional class in these core areas so schedules may reflect two math classes or two social studies classes. These additional enrichment classes are challenging and fun!
CARE classes - (CARE = Class of Academic Reinforcement and Excellence). Your child may be enrolled in a CARE MATH or CARE ELA class to strengthen math or ELA scores if test scores, teacher recommendation, or parent request. These classes are such a wonderful opportunity for a child to have an additional 40 minutes of small group practice and one on one with teachers.
5th graders should return the Data Enrollment Packet they received from their elementary school, two
(2) proofs of residency, and custody papers or other important information to your current elementary school in the Spring (March) for the upcoming school year at Canyon Ridge.

6th Grade Students' Schedule - What their day looks like...
6th grade students begin and end their day with their homeroom teacher to continue the sense of family and community. The 6th graders' core classes are located very near each other, within the same pod, often next door or only a few doors away. As 6th graders transition from class to class they move more independently, enjoying a little more freedom, but classes are nearby and teachers are in doorways and major hallways as students move within the same pod and hall. Teachers work as a TEAM of teachers to build relationships with every child and dedicate
themselves to weekly PLC time (Professional Learning Communities) where they develop strategies,
interventions, and enrichment to help EVERY child experience measurable academic growth and excellence thus building their confidence and reigniting their love of school. ELA (English/Language Arts) and Math will both be approximately 75 - 80 minutes long each day, while Social Studies and Science will be be 75-80 minutes long every other day, on an A/B schedule.
6th grade students will enjoy PE class for one semester. (PE = Physical Education) In addition, 6th grade students will be able to request additional elective courses from a list of LIFE APPLICATION CLASSES (We are unable to honor all requests, but do our best to ensure students receive a few some of their choices):
A wonderful opportunity only available for our 6th graders is Band which is a year-long course. We have an outstanding band program in Mustang, and 6th grade is the year students begin band. Your child may choose BAND as a Life App Elective in 6th grade. Sixth graders also have the opportunity to enroll in Theater (a semester course which performs a musical each semester.)
If students CHOOSE BAND, students may also rank additional favorite choices from the list below, and administrators will strive to give every child at least one of their top 3 choices.
Other choices include: Art (9 Weeks), Vocal Music (Semester or Year-Long), Communications/Publishing (9 weeks), S.T.E.M.-Sci/Tech/Engineering/Math (9 weeks), Technology (9 weeks), Basic Robotics (9 weeks), Advanced Robotics (pre-requisite of Basic Robotics in 5th grade or during prior 9 weeks in 6th grade), and Spanish (9 weeks).
We also offer ENRICHMENT project-based classes for students who are performing at or above grade level in math and reading. These are engaging classes involving research, hands on activities, and/or extensions.
We offer CARE CLASSES (remedial RTI classes) to work with students who are demonstrating difficulty in math and/or reading to build students' confidence and skill level.
Students who will be 6th graders at CRI next school year, should return the Enrollment Form, the Data Enrollment Packet, two (2) proofs of residency, immunization paperwork, custody papers or other important information to your child's homeroom teacher in Feb/March for the upcoming year at Canyon Ridge.
